These Keto Tuna Cakes are a perfect introduction to keto cooking for beginners. They’re simple to make, require minimal ingredients, and come together in under 30 minutes!
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- 2 (5-ounce) cans tuna in water, drained and flaked
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or cilantro)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
Instructions:
- Gather your ingredients: Make sure all your ingredients are prepped and ready to go. This will make the cooking process smoother.
- Flake the tuna: Open the cans of tuna and drain any excess liquid. Using a fork, flake the tuna into bite-sized pieces in a large bowl.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the almond flour, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Combine everything: Add the mayonnaise, beaten egg, chopped parsley, and dry ingredients to the bowl with the flaked tuna. Mix well to combine all the ingredients into a sticky mixture.
- Form the patties: Using a spoon or your hands, gently form the tuna mixture into two equal-sized patties. You can flatten them slightly to form burger-like shapes.
- Heat the oil: Place a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Let the oil heat up for a minute or two.
- Cook the tuna cakes: Carefully place the tuna patties in the hot oil. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. You can gently press down on the patties with a spatula halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking.
- Serve and enjoy: Once cooked through, transfer the tuna cakes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, like lemon aioli or tartar sauce, or enjoy them on their own!
Tips for Beginners:
- Don’t overmix the tuna mixture. Overmixing can make the patties tough.
- If the mixture seems too wet, add a little more almond flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it holds its shape well.
- Be gentle when flipping the patties to avoid them breaking apart.
- You can also bake these tuna cakes instead of frying them. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the patties for 12-15 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
