Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- For the Fish:
- 1 pound boneless, skinless white fish (cod, tilapia, or mahi-mahi work well)
- 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- For the Creamy Cilantro Sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- Pinch of salt
- For the Tacos:
- 4 corn tortillas
- Shredded cabbage (optional)
- Sliced avocado
- Chopped fresh cilantro
- Lime wedges
Instructions:
- Prep the Fish: Pat the fish dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, combine chili powder, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Season the fish evenly with the spice mixture.
- Cook the Fish: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the fish fillets and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Make the Sauce: While the fish cooks, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Warm the Tortillas: Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Add tortillas one at a time and cook for about 30 seconds per side, or until warmed through and slightly softened.
- Assemble the Tacos: Flake the cooked fish and place it on a warmed tortilla. Top with your favorite toppings like shredded cabbage, avocado slices, chopped cilantro, and a drizzle of the creamy cilantro sauce. Squeeze some fresh lime juice on top for extra zing!
Tips:
- Don’t overcook the fish! It will become dry and tough.
- If you don’t have fresh cilantro, you can substitute 1/2 teaspoon of dried cilantro.
- For a spicier taco, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the fish seasoning or a few slices of jalapeno to the tacos.
- Get creative with your toppings! Try adding diced tomatoes, crumbled cheese, or your favorite salsa.
