Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 8-10 minutes per lobster tail (depending on size) Additional Time: 10 minutes for preheating the oven Total Time: 23-30 minutes Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- 2 lobster tails (4-6 oz each)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Equipment:
- Baking sheet
- Kitchen shears or sharp knife
- Mixing bowl (optional)
- Spoon or brush (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to Broil. Make sure the broiler rack is positioned about 6 inches from the heat source.
- Prepare the lobster tails. Turn the lobster tails upside down and find the seam running down the top of the shell. Using kitchen shears or a sharp knife, carefully cut through the seam, starting from the tail end and working your way up towards the head. You can also twist the tail slightly to help separate the shell.
- **(Optional) **Gently pry open the lobster shell and remove the vein that runs down the center of the tail meat. You can discard this vein.
- (Optional) Prepare the lobster for seasoning. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, lemon juice (if using), garlic powder, and parsley (if using). Brush this mixture over the exposed lobster meat. Alternatively, you can simply season the lobster with salt and pepper.
- Broil the lobster tails. Place the lobster tails, flesh side up, on a baking sheet. Broil for 5-7 minutes per side, or until the lobster meat is opaque and slightly browned on the edges. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the lobster tails.
Tips:
- A good rule of thumb for cooking time is 1 minute per ounce of lobster tail.
- Don’t overcook the lobster! It will become tough and dry.
- Check for doneness by inserting a thermometer into the thickest part of the tail meat. The internal temperature should reach 140°F (60°C).
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges for squeezing over the lobster. You can also garnish with fresh parsley or chopped chives.
